Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Unicode Bamini (unicodebamini.com) is an independent website that converts Tamil text between Unicode and legacy font encodings such as Bamini and Vanavil. For any question about this policy or about your data, write to service@unicodebamini.com.

2. The converter does not send your text anywhere

Conversion runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript that is downloaded with the page. There is no API call, no form submission and no server-side processing. The text you paste is not transmitted to us, is not logged and is not stored — we could not read it even if we wanted to. Closing or reloading the page discards it.

This also means we cannot recover text for you, and that no account is needed to use the site.

3. Information that is processed automatically

Like any website, this one is delivered through a hosting and CDN provider (Cloudflare). When you request a page, Cloudflare processes technical data needed to serve it and to keep the site online and secure — typically your IP address, browser user agent, referring page, requested URL and timestamp. We do not use this data to identify visitors, and it is retained according to Cloudflare's own policies.

4. Advertising

This site is free and is funded by advertising. Adsterra is the network we use while the site is new; Google AdSense is planned as a second source once the site qualifies for it. A cookie notice on your first visit explains what the advertising and analytics partners store on your device and records that you have read it. It is a notice, not an ad switch: the ads are what pay for the hosting, so the way to refuse ad cookies is the third-party opt-outs below or your browser's own cookie controls.

Google AdSense and Google advertising cookies

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or to other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. Those cookies may record information about your browsing behaviour across sites, such as pages viewed and approximate location derived from your IP address.
• You can opt out of personalised advertising from Google at any time through Google Ads Settings. After opting out you will still see ads, but they will not be personalised using your Google advertising profile.
• You can also opt out of third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at optout.aboutads.info, or — in the European Union, the United Kingdom and Switzerland — at youronlinechoices.com.
• Ads are on by default. The cookie notice shown on your first visit explains this and keeps your acceptance in a local storage entry on your own device; the “Cookie notice” link in the footer of every page reopens it. Because advertising is the site's only income, the notice does not switch ads off. To stop personalised advertising, use the opt-outs above or block third-party cookies in your browser, which stops the ad frames from loading at all.

Adsterra

Adsterra is a third-party advertising network. To deliver and measure ads, Adsterra and its advertising partners may set cookies or use similar identifiers such as pixels and local storage, recording data such as your device type, browser, approximate location, the ad that was shown and whether it was clicked. That data is used for ad delivery, frequency capping, fraud prevention and aggregate reporting. It is collected by Adsterra under its own privacy policy, which we do not control; see adsterra.com/privacy-policy for details and for the choices it offers.

Cookies used for advertising and analytics

We do not run our own tracking or profiling cookies, and we do not sell personal information. Ad and analytics cookies are set by the third parties named above, and their own policies govern what they do with the data they collect.

5. Analytics

Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-G648EHWY09) runs on every page view, including the first one, and is not affected by the cookie notice. It sets first-party _ga cookies to distinguish returning visits, and page views are recorded with IP anonymisation switched on. We keep it on by default because traffic numbers are how we find out which pages and which conversions are broken; the script is loaded late, after the page is usable, so it does not delay the content.

If you would rather not be counted, the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on blocks it, and so does any content blocker that filters googletagmanager.com. Deleting the _ga cookies in your browser removes what has already been stored. None of this affects the converters, which run entirely in the page.

6. Where the data on this site comes from

“Data” here means the content the site is built on, not visitor data — we think it is worth stating plainly where it originates:

• Conversion tables. Derived from the Open-Tamil project (MIT licence), then cleaned, de-duplicated and corrected for known upstream errors before being compiled into the JSON files the site ships.
• Verification. Cross-checked against published Bamini key charts and the key positions in the fonts themselves. Test cases are written for this project.
• Fonts and downloads. Font files on the download page are served from this site's own CDN, so requesting them exposes the standard CDN log data described in section 3 — the same as any other page view. Downloading a font involves no account, no form and no additional tracking beyond what sections 3 to 5 describe.
• Visitor data. Only the technical, advertising and analytics data described in sections 3 to 5 above — collected by Cloudflare, Google and Adsterra respectively, never by the converter.

7. Legal bases (EEA and UK visitors)

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on legitimate interests for keeping the site secure and available (CDN request logs) and for aggregate traffic measurement with Google Analytics, which is why analytics runs from the first page view and can be blocked with the tools in section 5. Advertising is how the site is paid for: ad cookies are set by the ad network under its own policies, the cookie notice on your first visit records your acceptance of them, and the third-party opt-outs in section 4 let you refuse ad personalisation without losing access to the converters.

8. Your rights and choices

• Ask what personal data relating to you is held, and request a copy of it.
• Ask for inaccurate data to be corrected, or for data to be deleted.
• Object to processing based on legitimate interests.
• Lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
• Opt out of personalised ads through Google Ads Settings, optout.aboutads.info, youronlinechoices.com, or your browser's cookie controls.
• Block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the converters still work.
• Re-read the cookie notice at any time via the “Cookie notice” link in the footer.

Requests about data held by Google or Adsterra should go to those companies directly, since we do not receive their cookie-level data. For anything on this site, email service@unicodebamini.com.

9. Children

This site is a text-conversion tool aimed at general audiences and is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 where local law sets that threshold). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data to an advertising or analytics provider through this site, contact us and we will pass the request on.

10. International transfers

Cloudflare, Google and Adsterra operate globally, so technical and advertising data may be processed outside your country, including in the United States. Those providers rely on their own transfer mechanisms, such as standard contractual clauses, for such transfers.

11. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when the site changes — for example when advertising is switched on, when a new analytics tool is added, or when the law changes. The date at the top of this page always shows the current version. Material changes will be reflected here, and continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
